After smelting metal materials, they are cast into a simple shape before being processed by rolling, forging, or other methods. Most mass-produced metal materials today are continuously cast. For steel materials, a few tons is normal, with some reaching hundreds of tons, but for non-ferrous metal materials, small sizes of a few tens of kg are common. Molds for ingot casting are usually made of cast iron. However, in special cases such as vacuum melting, water-cooled copper molds are also used.
