Japanese: 消化吸収試験 - しょうかきゅうしゅうしけん（英語表記）absorption tests

Nutritional disorders can occur after various digestive diseases or gastrointestinal surgery, and are broadly divided into those caused by digestive disorders and those caused by absorption disorders. A method for distinguishing between these causes and determining the extent of the disorders is called a digestive and absorption test. A test meal prepared to contain a certain amount of lipid or protein is eaten by a subject for a certain period of time, and the amount of undigested lipid or protein excreted in the feces during this period is measured, and the presence or absence of digestive and absorption disorders is determined from the excretion rate relative to the amount ingested (balance study) is currently considered to be the most natural and accurate method.

種々の消化器疾患や消化管手術後などに栄養障害が起こることがあるが，その原因は消化障害による場合と吸収障害により起こる場合に大別される。これらの原因を鑑別し，また，その程度を判定する方法を消化吸収試験という。一定量の脂質，またはタンパク質を含むよう調理された試験食を被検者にある期間食べさせ，この間に排出された糞便中の未消化の脂質またはタンパク質の量を測定し，摂取された量に対する排出率から消化吸収障害の有無をみる方法(出納試験balance study)が，現在のところいちばん自然に近く，最も正確な方法とされている。
