A general term for insects in the family Buprestidae in the order Coleoptera, or one of these species. The jewel beetle, Chrysochroa fulgidissima , is the largest of the species native to Japan, reaching a body length of 4 cm. It is also known as the Yamato jewel beetle. Its green body has broad copper-purple vertical stripes on its back and a beautiful metallic sheen. Its English name is two-striped green buprestid. It is found in Honshu (except for northern Honshu), Shikoku, and Kyushu, as well as the Korean Peninsula and Taiwan. 甲虫目タマムシ科の昆虫の総称,またはそのうちの1種を指す。タマムシChrysochroa fulgidissimaは日本産の種の中ではもっとも大きく,体長は4cmに達する。別名ヤマトタマムシ。緑色の体は,背面に銅紫色の幅広い縦紋があり,美しい金属性の光沢がある。英名もtwo‐striped green buprestid。本州(北部を除く),四国,九州のほか,朝鮮半島や台湾にも分布する。成虫は7~8月ころに多く出現し,日中は活発に飛ぶ。
