Characters in Greek legend. (1) King of Tyre. Killed his sister Dido's (later Queen of Carthage) husband to seize her fortune. (2) King of Cyprus. Fell in love with an ivory maiden and prayed to Aphrodite to give him a woman like the statue, which turned into a living woman. ギリシア伝説の登場人物。（１）テュロス王。財産を乗っ取るため妹ディド（のちのカルタゴ女王）の夫を殺した。（２）キプロス王。象牙の乙女像に恋をし，アフロディテにこの像に似た女を与えてほしいと祈ったところ，像が生きた女となった。画題として好まれたほか，G.B.ショーの喜劇《ピグマリオン》，ミュージカル《マイ・フェア・レディ》も有名。
