...At the entrance to Mt. Omine, there is Kinpusenji Temple (Zao-do), the head temple of Kinpusan Shugen Honshu, and there are many historical sites and traditional sites related to Minamoto no Yoshitsune and the Southern Court. The cherry blossoms, which are said to have been sacred trees of Zao Gongen by En no Gyoja, are famous for filling a mountain with trees donated by pilgrims and others, including Shimo Senbon near Yoshino Shrine, Naka Senbon near Nyoirin-ji Temple, Kami Senbon near Yoshino Mikumari Shrine, and Oku Senbon near Saigyo-an. They are also a popular subject of poetry, and poems about Yoshino's cherry blossoms begin in the Kokinshu, but until the mid-Heian period, they were more often associated with mountain worship and were written about as snowy mountains. ...
