He caught one on the beach the morning after a rainstorm. Since then, only five specimens have been found in the Numazu area. It is a rare species. In 1922, it was given the scientific name Sympasiphaea imperialis , but recent research has shown that it is the same species as S. annectens , the type species of the genus, from the Indian Ocean, which is also the same species as G. marsupialis from the Atlantic Ocean.
