Tananarive

...Population: 1,052,835 (1993). Formerly called Tananarive, it was renamed after the 1975 Socialist Revolution. Located on high ground at an altitude of 1,435m inland, it is the centre of the railway and road network leading to Tamatave port in the northeast and Antsirabe in the southwest, and also has an international airport.
