Bamboo paper

Many Japanese dictionaries explain it as "the thin membrane found on the inside of bamboo trunks, or a similar thin name for Torinoko paper, Ganpishi, or Karakami," but no examples of its usage can be found. If the bamboo curtain paper, which first appeared in the Shosoin documents from 731 (Tenpyo 3), is the same as bamboo paper, it would be interpreted as paper made from bamboo fibers produced in China or Taiwan. The Ming Dynasty's Song Yingxing's Tenko Kaibutsu (1637) details the manufacturing method of bamboo paper, which he calls Sassei (Sweat Green).

多くの国語辞書には、「竹の幹の内面にある薄い皮膜、またはこれに似た薄い鳥の子紙、雁皮紙(がんぴし)、あるいは唐紙の異称」と説明されているが、用例が見当たらない。731年（天平3）の『正倉院文書』に初出する竹幕紙(ちくまくし)が竹紙と同じものであるとすれば、中国や台湾で抄造される竹の繊維を原料とした紙と解される。明(みん)の宋応星(そうおうせい)著『天工開物(てんこうかいぶつ)』（1637）には、殺青(さっせい)（汗青(かんせい)）と称して竹紙の製法が詳述されている。
