A former town in Saiki District, in the southwest of Hiroshima Prefecture, on the west side of Nomi Island. The town mainly grows flowers, citrus fruits and vegetables. It also operates coastal fishing, dried sardine production, oyster farming and quarrying of hanakou rock. The number of people commuting to Hiroshima City is increasing. In November 2004, it merged with Etajima Town in Aki District, Nomi Town in Saiki District and Osaki Town to become a city, Etajima City. 27.57 km2 . 4,119 people (2003). 広島県南西部,能美島西部の佐伯郡の旧町。花卉(かき)を中心に,柑橘(かんきつ),野菜栽培の複合経営を行う。沿岸漁業と煮干イワシ製造,カキ養殖,花コウ岩採石も行われる。広島市への通勤者が増加。2004年11月安芸郡江田島町,佐伯郡能美町,大柿町と合併し市制,江田島市となる。27.57km2。4119人(2003)。
