Name register - Nayosecho

A type of land register from the Edo period. While the land survey book records each plot of land in a village, the Nayorochō records the area and rice yield of fields and houses by owner. The area and rice yield are tabulated for each owner's farmhouse, so unlike the land survey book, it directly shows the composition of the farming income of the peasant class. It is a ledger created by village officials based on the land survey book for the purpose of allocating annual taxes and levying village use, and as a rule was not submitted to the feudal lord. Village officials also often made additions, deletions, and corrections when the owner of the land changed due to the sale, purchase, or pawning of the land, and would rewrite it.

江戸時代の土地台帳の一種。検地帳が一村の土地を一筆ごとに記してあるのに対し、名寄帳は田畑・屋敷の面積・石高(こくだか)を所持者ごとにまとめて記載してある。各所持者の農家別に面積・石高が集計してあるので、検地帳と異なり、そのまま農民層の所持高構成を知ることができる。年貢の割付けや村入用の賦課などのために、村役人が検地帳に基づいて作成する帳簿であり、原則として領主に提出することはなかった。また村役人は、土地の売買・質入れなどによって土地の所持者がかわる際に加除訂正を行い、つくりかえることも多かった。
