Also written as Okitsu. The Kudo clan of the Southern Fujiwara clan. Originated from Okitsu, Rohara County, Suruga Province (present-day Okitsu Town, Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture). It is said to have begun when Chikazuna, son of Okabe Gonnokami Kiyotsuna, called himself Okitsu Rokuro, but this is not certain. Many members of the Kudo clan made their name as warriors from the end of the Heian period, and the Okitsu clan also has a name in the Hogen Monogatari as a servant of Minamoto no Yoritomo, named Okitsu Shiro. After that, they became vassals of the Kamakura vassals, and during the Jokyu War, Okutsu Saemon-no-jo joined the Kamakura forces and went to Kyoto (Jokyu-ki). From the Muromachi to Sengoku periods, they became vassals of the Imagawa clan, and since Okitsu was a key transportation point, they set up a checkpoint to collect tolls, which became an important economic base.
