Also known as prescription medicines. A group of medicines designated by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law, which not only cannot exert their proper effects but may also be dangerous if not used under the guidance of a doctor. The direct container or packaging of prescription medicines has the words "Caution - Use only with the prescription or instructions of a doctor, etc." or "Instructions required." Retailers are not allowed to sell or give prescription medicines to anyone other than those who have received a prescription or instructions from a doctor, dentist, or veterinarian. 要指示医薬品ともいう。薬事法に基づいて,厚生大臣が指定する一群の医薬品で,医師の指導のもとに用いなければ適切な効果が発揮できないばかりか,危険を伴うおそれのあるものをいう。要指示薬の直接の容器や包装には,〈注意――医師等の処方箋,指示により使用すること〉あるいは〈要指示〉の文字が記載されている。販売業者は,医師,歯科医師,獣医師からの処方箋または指示を受けた人以外に要指示薬の販売,授与ができない。【松谷 剛志】
