Chamotte bricks Chamotte is fireclay (a hydrous mineral whose main components are silica SiO2 and alumina Al2O3 ) that has been fired to remove its moisture content (adherent water and crystal water) and shrinkage, and acidic firebricks made from this material are called chamotte bricks or clay bricks.
