chamotte brick

...High silica bricks are made from waxstone with a high quartz content, and are sometimes used in coke ovens. Chamotte bricks Chamotte is fireclay (a hydrous mineral whose main components are silica SiO2 and alumina Al2O3 ) that has been fired to remove its moisture content (adherent water and crystal water) and shrinkage, and acidic firebricks made from this material are called chamotte bricks or clay bricks. The relationship between the composition and fire resistance of silica-alumina refractories is shown in the figure, but chamotte bricks generally contain less than 50% to about 20% alumina.
