(1) Thiobarbiturate is a group of compounds formed by combining malonic acid and thiourea. As intravenous anesthetics, thiopental, developed in the United States in 1935, and thiamylal, developed in 1958, are widely used worldwide. Thiopental's anesthetic effect lasts for an extremely short period of time.
