theology

...the study of the faith and doctrine of individual theistic religions from their own perspective. In Japanese, it referred to the study of divine scriptures and Shinto, but nowadays it is used as a translation of the English word "theology" and mainly refers to Christian theology. Theology (German Theologie, French théologie) comes from the Greek word theologia, which originally meant logos (speech, teaching, explanation) about theos (God).
