Aviation insurance

A general term for insurance that covers damages caused by aircraft. The basic types of aviation insurance in Japan are aircraft insurance, which covers damages caused to the aircraft itself, third-party liability insurance, which covers the liability of the air carrier to third parties outside the aircraft, and passenger liability insurance, which covers the liability of the passengers. These insurances can be contracted comprehensively in one insurance policy or individually. Contracts are usually annual contracts with a term of one year, but short-term contracts for specific periods are also available. Aviation insurance covers all risks related to the use, utilization, management, manufacture, repair, etc. of aircraft, regardless of the aircraft's location (in the air, on the ground, or on the water). Since the risks of aircraft are high and the damage from a single accident can be enormous, in order to ensure stable operation, all non-life insurance companies jointly underwrite the risk and special reinsurance organizations have been established to absorb reinsurance in overseas markets. Joint underwriting organizations are also common in other countries, and a global underwriting system has been formed by exchanging reinsurance with each other.

航空機に関連して生ずる損害の填補(てんぽ)を目的とする保険の総称。日本で行われている基本的な航空保険は、機体自体に生じた損害を填補する機体保険、航空輸送業者が機外の第三者に対して負担する賠償責任を担保する第三者賠償責任保険、乗客に対する賠償責任の負担を担保する乗客賠償責任保険である。これらの保険は一保険証券で包括的に契約することも、個別に契約することもできる。契約は普通1年を期間とする年契約であるが、特定期間に対する短期契約もなされる。また、航空保険は、航空機の位置（空中、地上、水上）を問わず、航空機の使用、利用、管理、製造、修理などに関連して生じるいっさいの危険を対象とする。なお、航空機による危険はその危険度が高く、そのうえ一事故による損害が巨大となるので、安定した運営を行うため、全損害保険会社による共同的な引受けと、海外市場での再保険の消化を目的とする特殊な再保険機構が設けられているが、諸外国でも共同引受機構の設置が一般的であり、相互に再保険の交換などを行うことにより、全世界的な引受体制が形成されている。
