Princess Asahi

Japanese: 朝日姫 - あさひひめ
Princess Asahi
1543-90 (Tenbun 12-Tensho 18)
A woman from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. She was Toyotomi Hideyoshi's half-sister, born to Takeami, and is said to have married Saji Hyuganokami. As part of Hideyoshi's strategy to appease Tokugawa Ieyasu, who refused to come to Kyoto even after the peace treaty was concluded following the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, she remarried to Ieyasu in 1586, but Ieyasu did not come to Kyoto until Hideyoshi's mother traveled to Okazaki. As she lived in Suruga Fuchu, she was known as Suruga Gozen. She died of an illness in Kyoto and was buried at Tofukuji Temple. [Kato Mariko]
