Okatora no O - Okatora no

Japanese:
Okatora no O - Okatora no

A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). It grows 40-60cm tall, in colonies that run horizontally along underground stems. The leaves are alternate, oblong, and pointed at both ends. In July, a flower spike appears at the top of the stem, and numerous white five-petal flowers bloom from below. The name comes from the long flower spike resembling a tiger's tail. It grows on sunny roadsides in the mountains and fields, and is widely distributed from Japan to China. In wetlands, the closely related Solanum gracilis and Solanum nigra grow. Cultivated species include the exotic Solanum gracilis (creeping), and this group is collectively known as Lysimachia. All are easy to cultivate in Japan's climate.
