Okadera

This temple is located in Asuka Village, Takaichi County, Nara Prefecture, and belongs to the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism. Its name is Tokozan Ryugai-ji Temple. In 663 (the second year of Emperor Tenchi's reign), Okamoto Palace was converted into a temple, and the emperor bestowed upon it the priest Gien. It is commonly known as Okadera Temple. The name Ryugai-ji Temple comes from the story of how Gien sealed away an evil dragon in a small pond in the temple grounds with the power of his magic and covered it with a large stone, and it is said to be one of the Goryu-ji temples founded by Gien. At the time, it belonged to the Hosso sect, but it fell into ruin for a long time, and was rebuilt in the Edo period and became affiliated with the Genha sect. The principal image, a seated Nyoirin Kannon statue (a national important cultural property), is the seventh temple of the Thirty-Three Kannon Temples of the Western Provinces, and attracts the faith of pilgrims.

奈良県高市(たかいち)郡明日香(あすか)村にある真言宗豊山(ぶざん)派に属する寺。東光山竜蓋寺(りゅうがいじ)と号する。663年（天智天皇2）岡本宮を改めて寺とし、天皇より義淵(ぎえん)僧正が賜った。通称岡寺の名で親しまれている。竜蓋寺の由来は、境内にある小池に義淵が悪竜を法力によって封じ、大石で蓋(ふた)をしたという故事によったもので、義淵開基の五竜寺の一つとされている。当時は法相(ほっそう)宗であったが、久しく荒廃が続き、江戸時代に再興されて現派に属した。本尊如意輪観音坐像(にょいりんかんのんざぞう)（国の重要文化財）は、西国三十三所観音霊場第7番札所として参詣(さんけい)者の信仰を集めている。
