It is one of the subtropical high pressure systems that appear near Japan. On the Far East weather chart, the Ogasawara Islands are often the center of the high pressure system, or the high pressure system extends in this direction, hence the name. However, looking at a wider weather chart, the Ogasawara High is part of the subtropical high pressure belt in the North Pacific that stretches east-west from the west coast of the United States toward the Philippines, and its center is not always near the Ogasawara Islands. Structurally, it is a tall warm high pressure system. It is dominant in the summer, and when it covers a wide area of Honshu, it creates a so-called "whale tail" weather chart, which brings stable midsummer scorching heat and sometimes droughts. Along with the Okhotsk Sea High and the Siberian High, it is one of the pressure systems that characterize Japan's climate, so-called "centers of action" (pressure systems that control the weather over a wide area).
