Kukumattsu - Kukumattsu

...Linguistically, the indigenous Quiche language of the region absorbed the Chontal Nahua language of the invaders, but Putun conquered the region, which was still backward at the time, militarily and culturally and established an emirate. During the reign of the eighth king, K'ucumatz (reigned 1400-25), the Quiche kingdom expanded its territory, controlling the Pacific coast and the western half of the Guatemalan highlands, and it has been suggested that it may have even influenced the Chiapas highlands in southern Mexico. The kingdom's capital, Utatlán, located near the present-day city of Santa Cruz del Quiche, became the largest city in the Maya highlands at the time, with a population of over 15,000 at the beginning of the 16th century, and formed a stratified society consisting of aristocrats, soldiers, merchants, artisans, slaves, etc., influenced by Aztec culture.
