Kot Diji (English spelling)

Japanese: コト･ディジ（英語表記）Kot Diji

A prehistoric site located 24km south of Khairpur in the Sindh region of southern Pakistan. It consists of strata representing the Indus Valley Civilization urban period and the culture preceding it. Since 1955, it has been excavated by FAKhān of the Pakistan Archaeological Service. There are 16 layers on natural strata, the top three of which were named the Indus civilization, and the bottom 13 the Kot-Diji culture. This culture, along with the Pre-Harappan culture discovered in strata before the construction of the Harappan forts in 1946, and the similar cultures that have been discovered in large numbers as independent ruins in recent years, is important as it holds the key to the emergence of the Indus Valley civilization in the Indus Valley.

パキスタン南部，シンド地方ハイルプルの南24kmにある先史遺跡。インダス文明都市期の文化とこれに先立つ文化との地層より成る。1955年以降パキスタン考古局のハーンF.A.Khānが発掘。自然層上に16層あり，上3層がインダス文明，下の13層がコト･ディジ文化と命名された。この文化は1946年にハラッパーの城塞構築以前の地層から検出されたプレ･ハラッパー文化，あるいは近年単独の遺跡として多数発見されている同種の文化とともに，インダス流域においてインダス文明出現の鍵をにぎるものとして重要。
