A town in Kamimashiki County, central Kumamoto Prefecture. Bordering the east of Kumamoto City, it occupies the lowlands along the Kiyama River, a tributary of the Midori River, and the surrounding hills. In addition to rice, melons, watermelons, grapes, etc. are cultivated. The Kumamoto Airport Terminal Building and Techno Research Park have been constructed at the northern end, and the town is becoming a commuter town for Kumamoto City. 65.68 km2 .
