The Battle of Banshu

Japanese: 播州の役 - はしゅうのえき

It was a rebellion by a minority ethnic group that occurred during the Ming Dynasty in China, and is counted among the Three Great Conquests of the Wanli Era (the others being the Bohai Rebellion and the Korean War). Banshu is a region centered on what is now Zunyi County, Guizhou Province, and is said to have been the land of the ancient Yelang people. During the Ming Dynasty, it was one of the local lords under Sichuan, and was called the Banshu Xuan'i Shi. Its chief was the Yang family, which had continued since the Tang Dynasty, and they were appointed Xuan'i Shi by both the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, forming a kind of autonomous region. In 1589 (the 17th year of the Wanli Era), an internal dispute led to an internal whistleblower alleging that the then Xuan'i Shi Yang Yinglong had rebelled, and he was arrested in 1592 but released.

中国，明代に起きた少数異民族の反乱で，万暦三大征(ほかにボハイの乱，朝鮮の役)の一つに数えられる。播州は今の貴州省遵義県を中心とする地方で，古の夜郎の地だという。明代には四川所属の土司の一つで，播州宣慰使とよばれた。その長は唐代以来続く楊氏で，元･明両朝から宣慰使に任ぜられ，一種の自治区をなしていた。1589年(万暦17)内紛から時の宣慰使楊応竜反すという内部告発があり，92年いったん捕らえられたが釈放された。
