...The image is particularly characterized by the intensity of the flames, and words such as naar (fire), sayr (flame), and jahim (fire furnace) are used to describe hell. In the Quran, hell is also called jahannam, which comes from the aforementioned Gehenna. The shape of hell is not entirely clear from the Quranic descriptions, but it is imagined as a huge hole with seven gates, where sinners are judged and where they are assigned to live among the seven levels depending on their sins.
