Throughout history, the Danube has always played two roles: a military border and a place of peaceful economic trade, and at the same time it has played a role in connecting the cultures of the East and the West. As early as the 7th century BC, the Greeks had already developed the area up to the mouth of the Danube, and named the river Istros after the colony Istros on the Black Sea coast. From the 10th to the 6th century BC, the Hallstatt culture, which represents the early Iron Age in Europe, flourished in the upper Danube basin, but the Celts, who led the later period, moved east up the Danube and took over the Thracian settlements in the lower basin. …
