Written by Todaiji Sanron Sect Eikan. Created in 1079 (Shoryaku 3) or 1096 (Eicho 1). This is the etiquette for the Ojo-ko lecture held on the tenth day of each month, and was likely created for one that Eikan held in Higashiyama, Kyoto. A statue of Amida Buddha is placed in the hall, incense and flowers are prepared, and a lecture is given on the seven gates. The seven gates are: Awakening the Bodhi Mind Gate, Repenting and Obstructing the Work Gate, Rejoicing in Good Roots Gate, Nembutsu and Ojo Gate, Praising Paradise Gate, Inexhaustible Causes Gate, and Transferring Merit Gate. Each gate is accompanied by a poem and ends with a eulogy of the virtues of Shakyamuni. [Nishiguchi Junko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
