Anglerfish (Chaunax fimbriatus)

Japanese: フサアンコウ(総鮟鱇) - フサアンコウ（英語表記）Chaunax fimbriatus

A marine fish of the order Anglerfishes and family Anserinidae (illustration). Found from Sagami Bay to Kagoshima on the Pacific coast, and in Toyama Bay on the Sea of Japan coast. It has a remarkably large, slightly flattened head and a rounded body, followed by a slender tail. Its body is reddish yellow with scattered bright pale green spots. Its mouth opens wide and faces upward, and its skin is densely covered with small, sharp spines. The first dorsal fin has changed into a small tentacle-like projection near the tip of the snout, which can be retracted into a concave groove. The second dorsal fin is located quite far back on the body.

アンコウ目フサアンコウ科の海産魚（イラスト）。太平洋側では相模湾から鹿児島まで，日本海側では富山湾に分布。頭部が著しく大きくてやや縦扁し，体は丸く，これに細い尾部が続く。体色は赤みを帯びた黄色で，鮮やかな淡緑色の斑点が散在している。口は大きく上向きに開き，皮膚一面に小さく鋭いとげが密生している。第1背びれは吻端（ふんたん）に近い1個の小さな触手状突起に変化し，くぼんだ溝にひっこめることができる。第2背びれは体のかなり後方にある。
