A city in western Aichi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. It is located at the northern end of the Chita Hills, with the Aichi Irrigation Canal flowing through the eastern part of the city. It borders the southeast of Nagoya City, and is the junction of the Tokaido Main Line and the Taketoyo Line. Urban agriculture, such as peaches, grapes, and greenhouse horticulture, is practiced in the city. Industries such as transportation equipment and metals are developing. 愛知県西部の市。1970年市制。知多丘陵の北端に位置し，東部を愛知用水が流れる。名古屋市の南東に接し，東海道本線と武豊(たけとよ)線の分岐点をなす。モモ，ブドウ，施設園芸など都市近郊農業が行われる。輸送用機器，金属などの工業が発展している。近年宅地化が著しい。33.66km2。８万5249人（2010）。
