Deaf school - Rougakko

Japanese:
Deaf school - Rougakko
A school that provides deaf and severely hearing-impaired children with an education equivalent to that of kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, and high school, and also aims to impart knowledge and skills necessary for the lives of deaf people. After World War II, elementary and junior high school education became compulsory under the School Education Act, and prefectures are responsible for establishing such schools. The first was established in Paris by Epee in 1760. In Japan, it began as Kyoto Moua-in, founded by Furukawa Taishiro in 1878, and later differentiated into a school for the blind. Teaching is done using oral language, sign language, etc. After World War II, oral language was the main method, but now total communication methods that incorporate sign language and other methods have become dominant. With the revision of the School Education Act in 2007, blind schools, deaf schools, and special needs schools became special needs schools that transcend the types of disabilities.
