International Council of Museums

International Council of Museums

[Science Museum Liaison Organization]
It is said that there are more than 2,000 museums in Japan alone, so it is difficult to grasp the number of museums in the world. ICOM (short for The International Council of Museums) was formed in 1946 as a specialized organization for the advancement of museums around the world, and committees have been established in the fields of science, technology, ethnology, history, natural history, archaeology, and art to promote international cooperation for the advancement of museums. ICOM publishes "ICOM News," while UNESCO publishes "Museum," a magazine that reports on museums in each country, four times a year.
