Portuguese poet. One of the leading poets of Western Europe in the first half of the 20th century. He spent his childhood in South Africa, and also wrote in English. In addition to his mystical "real name" Pessoa, he wrote poetry under other pseudonyms such as the nature poet Caeiro, the pagan and classical Reis, and the Whitman-esque Campos, and each of these can be considered a poet with a different and unique personality. Most of his works were published posthumously, and were highly praised by R. Jacobson and O. Paz, among others, and had a great influence on A. Tabucchi. His prose work "The Book of Anxieties," written under the name of Soares, has also attracted attention. His Japanese translation is "Portuguese Sea." → Related article Saramago Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
