International Council for Traditional Music

In order to foster cooperation among researchers of this type, an international academic society was established in 1947. It was the International Folk Music Council (in 1981 it was renamed the International Council for Traditional Music, as the subject of research expanded beyond folk music as defined below to include ethnic music from around the world).
