This large toad is in the order Frogs and family Bufonidae, and is about 20cm long. It has highly developed ear glands behind the eyes, and the mucus secreted from them is highly toxic. It is native to South America, but has been introduced to various parts of the world to control pests such as sugar cane, and has been very effective. However, when it is introduced to small islands such as the Ogasawara Islands and breeds there, it becomes a fearsome natural enemy of native animals and is considered harmful.
