German preacher. Raised in Kaisersberg in Alsace. Became a preacher in Strasbourg in 1477, and became chaplain to Emperor Maximilian I in 1501. He was on friendly terms with Wimpfering and S. Brand, and was not afraid to criticize the corruption of the church, greatly influencing people with his popular sermons. He is considered one of the people who paved the way for the Protestant Reformation. [Nakamura Kenjiro]

ドイツの説教師。アルザスのカイザースベルクKaisersbergに育った。1477年シュトラスブルク(ストラスブール)の説教師となり，1501年には皇帝マクシミリアン1世の礼拝堂付き司祭となった。ウィンプフェリング，S.ブラントとも親交があり，教会の腐敗を批判することを恐れず，民衆的な説教によって多大の感化を与えた。宗教改革への道をひらいた一人に数えられる。【中村賢二郎】
