...After an eight-year interregnum from 1332, Valdemar IV (reigned 1340-75) put an end to the internal unrest and made peace with the Hanseatic League, resulting in political stability. Valdemar IV's daughter Margrethe (later I) married the Norwegian king Haakon VI (reigned 1355-80), and their son Oluf became king of Denmark after Valdemar IV's death (1375), and in 1380, he also became king of Norway after his father Haakon's death. In 1387, Oluf died, and Margrethe was chosen as the "highest authority" (regent) by the Councils of State of both countries, becoming a de facto "queen" (1387-97). In 1389, at the request of the Swedish nobles, she expelled the Swedish king Albrecht and united the three kingdoms. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Allf" are listed below.
