〘 noun 〙 A temporary position in charge of overall command of military affairs during battles. In the Kamakura period, this position was held by the betto and shoshi of the Samurai-dokoro, but after the Onin War, other positions were also appointed. 〘名〙 戦いの際、軍事全般の総指揮にあたった臨時の職。鎌倉時代には侍所の別当、所司などがこれにあたったが、応仁の乱以後は、それ以外にも任ぜられた。戦国大名は軍事に長じた者をこれにあてた。※太平記(14C後)七「長崎四郎左衛門尉、軍(イクサ)奉行にて有りければ、手負死人の実撿をしけるに」
