Katsuo Takaishi - Takaishi Katsuo
Born: October 14, 1906 in Osaka
[Died] April 13, 1966. Tokyo swimmer. Graduated from Waseda University in 1930. Participated in the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, placing 5th in both the 100m and 1500m freestyle, becoming the first Japanese swimmer to win an Olympic medal. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, he placed 3rd in the 100m freestyle and 2nd in the 800m relay, and participated in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games as captain. Chairman of the Japan Swimming Federation from 1961 to 1964. Received the Helms Prize in 1924. Major work: "Swimming Japan" (1934, co-authored with Kimura Zourai).
