During the Early Dynastic Period III in the middle of the 3rd millennium BC, the four main districts of Girsu (now called Telloh), Lagash (now called al-Hiba), Sirara (now called Surghul), and Guabba (now called Guabba) made up the city-state of Lagash. The main palace was in Girsu, and Girsu, Lagash, and Sirara were connected by canals, with Guabba apparently being several tens of kilometers away. …
