[20th Century Passion]
A return to the original Passion music began in the 20th century with Heinrich von Herzogenberg's (1843-1900) Passion (1896). Distler composed Chorale Passion (1933) modelled on Schütz, and Pepping composed St. Matthew Passion (1950) with the aim of returning to Bach.
