In general, however, it is rare for ovarian and testicular functions to appear simultaneously. Depending on the individual's developmental stage, testicular functions may appear first and then begin to function as ovaries (protoandry), or conversely, ovarian functions may appear first and testicular functions appear later (protogyny). …
