This refers to the energy associated with the change in nuclear mass, calculated using the following relationship: For example, this is the energy change that occurs during nuclear decay, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, etc. The amount of energy released during nuclear fission is approximately 200 MeV for the splitting of one ²³⁵ U atom. From the perspective of energy utilization, it is also called atomic (force) energy.

E ＝ mc ²
の関係式で計算される核質量の変化に伴うエネルギーをいう．たとえば，核崩壊，核分裂，核融合などの際のエネルギー変化．核分裂の際のエネルギー放出量は，²³⁵U 1原子の分裂で約200 MeV である．エネルギー利用の観点からは，原子(力)エネルギーということもある．
