A perennial herb of the Campanulaceae family that grows in dry grasslands, sand dunes, and rocky areas (illustration). It is widely distributed in Siberia, Central Europe, and North America. It is also an important horticultural plant of the Campanula genus (English name: bluebell). The stem is 15-40 cm tall, the basal leaf stalk is 3-10 cm long, the leaf blade is circular, 0.5-3 cm in diameter, and has several coarse serrations. The cauline leaves are linear, 1-5 cm wide, and not sawtoothed. The flowers are solitary or in a raceme, with several on thread-like pedicels and thread-like calyx lobes, 5-8 mm long, and not sawtoothed.
