Aegidius

Japanese: アエギディウス(英語表記)Aegidius
Aegidius
?‐464
A Roman soldier during the final years of the Roman Empire. Born in Gaul, he was appointed commander of the Gallic army by Emperor Majorian. After Majorian was assassinated by Ricimer in 461, Aegidius, who was a friend of Majorian, took control of northern Gaul, centering on Soissons, in opposition to the Italian government controlled by Ricimer. He allied with the Salian Franks and frequently fought against the Visigoths, who were allies of the Roman Empire. After his death in the autumn of 464, his domain in northern Gaul was succeeded by his son Syagrius.
