… In 1927, B. Wehnelt, a student of Haberland, found a biological method to quantify this hormone by removing seeds from immature kidney bean pods and applying a sample liquid to the inside of the pod, which then rose up. Since then, research into isolating and identifying the substance has progressed rapidly. Using this method, J. English and others from the United States discovered that the wound hormone was present in the pods themselves, which were used as materials for this study. In 1939, they isolated the substance as crystals and identified it as traumatic acid (⊿ ^1- decene-1,10-dicarboxylic acid, HOOC-CH=CH-(CH ₂ ) ₈ -COOH). Its action is promoted by glutamic acid, phosphate, and sucrose, but it has no effect other than inducing cell division when wounded, and does not induce cell division under tissue culture conditions. …

…　1927年にハーバーラントの弟子ウェーネルトB.Wehneltが，インゲンマメの未熟な果実の莢（さや）から種子を取り去り，莢の内側に試料液を塗るとそこが盛り上がってくる反応で，このホルモンを生物学的に定量する方法をみつけて以来，物質を分離，同定する研究が急速に進んだ。この方法を使ってアメリカのイングリッシュJ.Englishらはこのときの材料として使われる莢自身に傷ホルモンが存在することを見いだし，39年にその物質を結晶として単離し，トラウマチン酸traumatic acid(⊿¹‐decene‐1,10‐dicarboxylic acid,HOOC－CH＝CH－(CH₂)₈－COOH)と同定した。その作用はグルタミン酸，リン酸，ショ糖によって促進されるが，傷を受けた際に細胞分裂を引き起こす以外の効果はなく，組織培養条件下において細胞分裂を引き起こすことはない。…
