Ota Taneko - Ota Taneko

Japanese: 大田田根子 - おおたたねこ
Ota Taneko - Ota Taneko
A character who appears in the legends of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, he is the son of Omononushi, the god of Mt. Miwa (Sakurai City). He is said to be the ancestor of the divine lord Kamo no Kimi. During the reign of Emperor Sujin, when an epidemic broke out, Omononushi appeared to the emperor in a dream and told him that he was responsible for the epidemic, and that it would cease if Otataneko, a descendant of his, were to be worshiped. Otataneko was then sought out, and it was discovered that he was indeed the son of Omononushi and Itsuki Tamayorihime, so he was made the chief worshipper of Omononushi. The epidemic ceased immediately, and peace was restored to the country. He is currently enshrined at Onaoneko Shrine, a sub-shrine of Omiwa Shrine. <References> Okami and Ishigami, edited by Wada Sui
