...The glass plates (cliché verre) produced in the second half of the 19th century by landscape painters Corot and T. Rousseau, as well as by Fontanesi, who taught in Japan, were made by exposing photographic paper to light and drawing with a needle directly on a glass plate coated with chemicals. This has the effect of being a photographic print of drypoint (see below). This is different from heliogravure (invented by Karl Klietsch in Vienna in 1875), which uses a metal master plate produced by a photochemical process and then produces the print on a regular pressure press. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "heliogravure" are listed below.
