Late blight - Late blight

This disease occurs in grapes and is caused by the parasitism of the mold Glomerella cingulata . Dark brown spots appear on the fruit, which gradually expand until the entire fruit rots. Later, black spots and a pale pink mucilage (masses of conidia) appear on the lesions. Affected fruit either drop or become mummified and remain on the stem. It can also cause spoilage during transport. It is a serious disease in Japan, where there is a lot of rain during the harvest season, and can be prevented by spraying captan and organosulfur agents. This fungus also infects other fruits such as apples and pears, causing anthracnose.

ブドウの果実に発生する病気で、カビの一種であるグロメレラ・シンギュラタGlomerella cingulataの寄生によっておこる。果実に黒褐色の斑点(はんてん)ができ、しだいに拡大して全体が腐る。のちに病斑上に黒点および淡紅色の粘質物（分生胞子の塊）を生ずる。被害果は落果し、あるいはミイラ状になって果軸に残る。また輸送中の腐敗の原因になる。収穫期に雨の多い日本では重要な病気で、キャプタン剤および有機硫黄(いおう)剤を散布して防ぐ。なお、この菌はリンゴ、ナシなど他の果実類を侵し炭疽(たんそ)病をおこす。
