...The Baden Constitution had some more advanced aspects than other states, such as an election law that was not based on estates, and with the active activities of the lower house led by Roteck, Baden was seen as a model state for constitutionalism in Germany in the first half of the 19th century. During the revolution of 1848-49, it became a base of operations for radicals such as Friedrich Hecker (1811-81) and Struve, and a temporary republican government was established in 1849.
