Leaching is not only used as a smelting technique for concentrates and roasted ores, but is also widely used as a direct extraction method for metals from oxidized ores. In this case, there are various methods, such as vat leaching, in which roughly crushed ore is placed in a large tank and oxidized by blowing air into it and stirring it to dissolve the metal elements; heap leaching, in which the ore is piled up in a yard (storage facility) and a dilute acid or alkaline solution is circulated and sprayed over it; and in-place leaching, in which numerous cracks are made in the ore body and water or acid is circulated directly through it.
